Garlic Mustard Pull

Location: Nature Center, Oakwoods Metropark, 32911 Willow Rd., New Boston, MI 48164

Date: Wednesday April 17, 10 am – 1 pm

Join us in removing invasive garlic mustard from Oakwoods Metropark. We will meet at the Nature Center parking lot (look for the Metroparks vehicle and blue flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.

All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, as well as a water cooler and snacks. We will provide gloves, but feel free to bring your favorite pair! Please be sure to dress for working outdoors and in areas that may include poison ivy (long pants, layered clothing, closed-toe shoes, rain gear, hat, sunscreen, etc.).

Garlic mustard is a short herbaceous plant that grows in the forest understory. One plant can produce thousands of seeds that can germinate for up to five years. Garlic mustard crowds out native plants important to our ecosystems. Volunteers are an essential part in our fight against invasive species and in our work to restore and conserve natural areas. Your help allows the Metroparks to protect unique ecosystems that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

All opportunities are from 10am – 1pm and registration is required. Please register at least 24 hours before the workday. To register Click Here, or please contact the Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator, at naturevolunteer@metroparks.com, or 810-494-6053.

*Volunteer opportunities without a minimum of five volunteers registered will be cancelled. Volunteer opportunities may also be cancelled for severe weather events. These weather events can include extreme heat or heavy rain. Opportunities cancelled due to weather may be rescheduled. Those registered will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance.

A liability waiver is required; if under 18, a parent/legal guardian needs to sign as well.
