Native Seed Harvest: Oakwoods

Location: Nature Center, Oakwoods Metropark, 17845 Savage Rd, Belleville, MI 48111

Date: Saturday October 26th, 10am – 12:30pm

Join us in collecting native seed from Oakwoods Metropark. We will meet in the Cedar Knoll  (look for the Metroparks vehicle and blue flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday.

Everyone is welcome! All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, as well as a water cooler and snacks. We will provide gloves, but feel free to bring your favorite pair! Please come dressed for a day outside and off trail in areas that may have poison ivy (closed-toe shoes, long pants, hat, sunscreen).

We need help collecting seed from native plants so we can spread natives to other areas of the park! Native biodiversity is extremely important to support wildlife, native bees, and other insects. Volunteers are a critical part of positively impacting natural areas we wouldn’t be able to otherwise! Your help allows the Metroparks to protect unique ecosystems that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Registration is required. Please register at least 24 hours before the workday. To register, please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0a49a8a72ca7f49-20191 or contact the Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator, at naturevolunteer@metroparks.com, or 810-494-6053.

Please register so you may be made aware of cancellations. Volunteer opportunities may also be cancelled for severe weather events. These weather events can include extreme heat or heavy rain. Opportunities cancelled due to weather may be rescheduled. Those registered will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance.
