Through plenary talks, focused presentations, and workshops, conference participants will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of ecosystem restoration.
The 2017 Keynote Speaker is author and environmentalist, Dr. John Francis. After witnessing the 1971 San Francisco Bay oil spill, John chose to stop using motorized vehicles for 22 years and became known as “the planetwalker.” He also took a vow of silence after realizing his previously argumentative approach to environmental issues was detrimental to true understanding and collaboration. He did not speak for 17 years, ending the streak in 1990. He has since founded Planetwalk, a non-profit environmental awareness organization, and earned a PhD in Land Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he is now a visiting associate professor.
