Did you know woodpeckers’ brains have special shock absorbers so they don’t get brain damage? This comes in handy in late winter when woodpeckers are actively drumming. We are fortunate to have 7 different species of woodpecker right here in Northwest Ohio. This year we’ll see which species turn up, and hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of one of North America’s largest, the pileated woodpecker.
