Adopt a Natural Area Program

Todd Pochadt- volunteer who adopted an area at the Kitty Todd Nature Preserve, a property owned by The Nature Conservancy in Swanton, Ohio.

Todd Pochadt- adopted an area at the Kitty Todd Nature Preserve, a property owned by The Nature Conservancy in Swanton, Ohio.

“The beauty of Adopt a Natural Area is that you can look back over the area after a day of work and say with some pride “I did that”.  You can see visible results, note progress and easily resume work in following days.  A nature preserve like Kitty-Todd is a really big garden.  It needs weeding, seeding and occasional garbage pickup (darn those wandering plastic grocery bags!).  The best way to handle a big preserve is to manage it in smaller digestible areas.  I like to work on areas that are highly visible to the public base first impressions of the preserve are important.” Todd Pochadt

The Adopt a Natural Area Program is a program of the Green Ribbon Initiative which provides opportunities for you to take an active part in the stewardship of local natural areas to enhance habitat for wildlife and native plants.  We need your help. Enrolled volunteers are provided with background and training to assist natural resources management staff in stewarding key high-quality natural communities throughout the region.  To learn more, contact us.

Do you have a natural area that would be a good Adopt A Natural Area location?  Give us a shout!
